Ramsey County Jail Roster

The Ramsey County Jail inmate registry in Minnesota is a public resource that allows anyone to check if a specific person is in custody at the county detention center. RamseyCourt.us helps find public information about current and recently released inmates. Additionally, data can be obtained through the official Adult Detention Center roster on the Ramsey County Sheriff's Office website, in person at the detention center's reception, or by phone. The registry is maintained by the Ramsey County Sheriff's Office, updated every 30 minutes, and contains records of all current inmates as well as individuals released within the last five days.

Search Current Inmates in Ramsey Jail

There are several ways to find out if a specific person is held at the Ramsey County Adult Detention Center.

Online Search

  1. Visit RamseyCourt.us to find publicly available court information related to inmates.
  2. To search directly in the detention center's registry, go to the Ramsey County Adult Detention Center Roster page. The system allows searches by last name, first name, or booking number.
  3. The Inmates In-Custody (Booking Reports) page provides additional booking and custody reports.

You will need the person's full legal name to start the search. If the booking number is known, it will speed up the process. Juvenile offenders are not displayed in the public registry.

By Phone

Call the detention center's main number and inquire if a specific person is in custody. The operator can confirm the information by full name or date of birth.

In Person

Visit the detention center's reception and approach the information window. The staff will assist with the search.

Find Ramsey Jail Booking Records Online

A booking record is created at the moment a person is officially admitted to the detention center. It is not a sentence or an admission of guilt — just an administrative document about the fact of being taken into custody.

During the booking procedure, the following data is recorded:

  • Unique booking number
  • Date and time of admission
  • Charges filed
  • Arresting agency (police, state patrol, etc.)
  • Primary identification information of the detainee

Arrest data comes from arresting agencies, official charges from the prosecutor's office, and court information from state courts. Therefore, one record may contain information from multiple sources.

Online access to booking records is available through the detention center registry — records remain accessible during the inmate's custody and for five days after release. If you need a criminal history arrest report, refer to the Criminal History Arrest Reports section on the Sheriff's Office website. Processing such a request will require the person's full name and date of birth.

Court materials related to the case are available separately — through the Minnesota Court Records Online (MCRO) system, where you can search by defendant's name or case number.

Search the Ramsey Jail Roster by Last Name or Booking Number

The registry supports two main search methods.

Search by Last Name

Enter the person's last name in the appropriate field. Add the first name if necessary to narrow the results. A few tips:

  • Use the correct spelling — the system is sensitive to letter errors.
  • If the last name may have different spellings (hyphen, apostrophe), try several variations.
  • A too common last name will return many results; adding the first name will significantly help.

Search by Booking Number

If you have the booking number, enter it directly. This method gives an exact result — one record corresponds to one number.

What to Do if the Search Yields No Results

The absence of a record does not necessarily mean the person was not detained. Possible reasons:

  1. The person is still undergoing the intake procedure and has not yet appeared in the system.
  2. The person was released more than five days ago — the record has been removed from the public registry.
  3. The name was entered incorrectly or differs from the legal name in documents.
  4. The person is held in another facility or county.

In such cases, call the detention center directly at (651) 266-9350 or submit a data request in accordance with the Minnesota Government Data Practices Act.

Jail Roster Updates and Search Limitations in Ramsey

The registry is updated every 30 minutes. This means the information is almost current but not in real-time.

There are several important limitations to consider:

  • Delay after booking. A person just brought to the detention center may not appear in the registry for some time — until the intake procedure is completed.
  • Records disappear after release. Data is retained only for five days after the person's release. The registry is not an archive of all past bookings.
  • Possible data entry errors. Arresting agencies enter initial data, and sometimes there are inaccuracies in spelling names or dates.
  • Charges may change. Initial charges in the registry reflect information at the time of booking. The prosecutor's office may later change, add, or drop charges.

For complete court information — including hearing dates, case status, and court decisions — use the Ramsey County District Court records page or the MCRO system. The detention center registry and the court system are different databases and do not duplicate each other.
